Description

A moist and tender apple cake made with applesauce and fresh apples, perfect for a cozy dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples, peeled, cored and diced (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
In a large bowl, whisk together the applesauce, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Fold in the diced apples and chopped walnuts if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
