Peanut Butter Cookie Turkeys

  • Total Time: 32 minutes
  • Yield: 12 turkeys 1x

Description

These Peanut Butter Cookie Turkeys are a fun and festive treat perfect for Thanksgiving or any fall gathering. Made with classic peanut butter cookies and decorated with colorful candy feathers, they are sure to delight kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 mini pretzel twists
24 candy-coated chocolate pieces (assorted colors)
12 small candy eyes
12 red cinnamon candies (for the turkey wattle)
1/4 cup chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, granulated sugar, egg, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll each into a ball. Place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
Flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
While cookies cool, prepare the decorations: break each mini pretzel twist in half to create ‘feathers.’
To assemble each turkey, place 2 pretzel halves sticking out from the back of each cookie to resemble feathers.
Attach candy-coated chocolates on top of the pretzels using a small dab of melted chocolate to secure them as colorful feathers.
Place two candy eyes near the front center of each cookie.
Use a small dab of melted chocolate to attach a red cinnamon candy below the eyes to represent the turkey’s wattle.
Melt chocolate chips with vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
Use a toothpick or small spoon to add a small dot of melted chocolate for the turkey’s beak between the eyes and wattle.
Allow all decorations to set before serving.
